Why this course?

The Level 2 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety qualification is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge for learners to operate safely in the workplace with regards to fire safety. It is aimed at staff who have recently been appointed, or who intend to be appointed to the role of Fire Marshal/Warden in the workplace.


If you do not need this level of training and knowledge, you may wish to take training that provides specific information relevant to your role, such as our Level 1 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety Awareness training course.

Who is this course for?


This Fire Warden (Fire Marshal) Training course is suitable for anyone who will be taking on the role of fire warden (fire marshal) in their workplace. Anyone at any level can take it and no previous knowledge is required - it covers the basics of fire safety and then goes into more detail about the specific fire safety responsibilities of fire wardens. It will educate you about what your duties are and how to fulfil them.

Be aware that fire wardens should also receive practical training in the use of fire extinguishers to supplement this training course as found here.

How is this course delivered?

The Level 2 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety course is delivered in a classroom and there is a mix of theory and practical elements required to successfully complete the course. We will deliver the course In-House at your site for a group of employees.

  • Fire and smoke spread


Identifying and controlling fire hazards:

  • Fire prevention

  • Fire detection and raising the alarm

  • Means of escape

  • Principles of extinguishing fires

  • Fire-fighting equipment and systems

  • Fire safety laws

  • Duties and responsibilities of employers and employees

  • Undertaking a fire safety inspection

  • Fire safety risk assessments

  • Contents of a fire safety briefing

  • Roles and responsibilities of the nominated fire warden

  • On a day-to-day basis

  • During an emergency
